Jamel Charlotte Bonello, a dedicated clinical social worker and a pillar of support for her community, passed away on January 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends

A Career Built on Compassion

Jamel dedicated her life to the service of others, specializing in the care of children and families. After earning her Master's in Social Work from Fordham University in 1996, she embarked on a career defined by advocacy and deep empathy.

For five years, she maintained a private practice in Bantam, where she became a vital resource for individuals navigating gender transitions. Her clinical reach was vast; she facilitated essential group therapy for those living with HIV/AIDS and provided specialized counseling for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse, as well as their children. Jamel also left a lasting institutional legacy by developing and implementing a comprehensive therapeutic counseling center for a local private school.

A Life of Love and Joy

Outside of her professional achievements, Jamel's heart belonged to her wife, Elizabeth Davis. Together for 33 years, Jamel and Liz built a life rooted in steadfast devotion and partnership. Some of their happiest moments were spent vacationing in Provincetown, Cape Cod, enjoying the coastal air and the company of one another.

Jamel's home was always filled with the presence of her beloved dogs. She was a devoted companion to Raisin, Chance, Maggie, Nick, Maddie, and Sage, all of whom brought immense joy to her life over the years.

She was predeceased by her parents, James and June (Harris) Bonello, and two sisters, Marietta Bonello Perillo and Michelle Bonello Tuttle.

She is survived by:

Her loving wife, Elizabeth Davis.

Her step-son, Jerry Yorker Junior.

Her nephew, David Tuttle and his spouse Bart Geissinger.

Her nieces, Dana Tuttle Georgiou and Paige Tuttle Nelson.

Jamel's legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her therapeutic work and the deep warmth she shared with those closest to her.

Calling hours will be held SATURDAY, January 24th 2026 from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Thurston Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Rd, Litchfield CT 06759, where family and friends may pay their respects.
