Joseph Charles Bonello, known affectionately to friends and family as Joe, passed away on April 22, 2025, in Clayton, Delaware. Born on September 27, 1951, in Lakewood, New Jersey to the late Prince and Lida Bonello, Joe's warmth and kindness left an indelible mark on everyone he met throughout his 73 years of life.
A devoted family man, Joe was preceded in passing by his treasured wife Valerie and both his parents. He is survived by a loving family that includes his brother Robert (wife Kathy), his sister Diane, his daughters and son in laws Victoria and Mark Cosner, Kimberly and Michael McGinnis, and Deborah Bonello and Jamie Scott, along with his adored nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who brought him immeasurable joy and pride. His role as a father and grandfather was one he cherished deeply, as each family gathering was an opportunity to share stories, laughter, and the kind of wisdom that can only be gleaned through a well-lived, loving life.
Joe served his country with honor and pride as a veteran of the United States Air Force. His love for community service shone through his continued dedication as a lifetime member and past chief of the Parkertown Volunteer Fire Department. His desire to guide and nurture the younger generation was evident through his role as a Cub Scout leader, and his commitment to fellowship was palpable in his active membership with the American Legion. These associations were not just a part of Joe's life; they were a testament to his unwavering commitment to service and to the upliftment of those around him.
Joe's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. A collector at heart, he took pleasure in gathering coins and baseball cards, finding joy in the history and stories they held. His love for gaming and puzzles showed his playful spirit and intellectual curiosity, hobbies that he often shared with his grandchildren during countless hours of fun and mentoring. A traveler by nature, Joe sought to experience new adventures with his family. It was his time spent with family that Joe valued above all else, cherishing every moment and creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
Those who knew Joe will remember a man who personified love, kindness, and thoughtfulness.
