Publish in a newspaper

Dr. James Wingo Anderson (Jim), age 89, passed away peacefully at McKendree Skilled Nursing on Monday August 25, 2025, devoted wife Gay at his side.

Jim was born on Aug 6, 1936, in Hinton WVA to Fred & Georgia Anderson. Jim was inspired by his mother (nurse) & recognized early his calling in life to serve as a healer, graduated WVA University in three years, trained at Northwestern Medical School & then did residency at the Mayo Clinic, enrolled in the US Army and served for three years as an Army Doctor in Denver, Colorado.

Jim was a dedicated, active Christian, did daily devotions for his adult life, and served as Sunday School Teacher and Deacon for decades, and was active in mission work.

Jim was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend devoted to his family & loved ones as he was devoted to his faith & service as a physician & medical researcher.

Jim is proceeded in death by his parents, his brother John Anderson (Louisville, KY), and great-grand daughter Evie Grace Yates.

Jim is survived by loving wife Gay, son Steve Anderson (wife Anne) of St Petersburg, FL daughter Kathy Kroll (husband Tom), of Mt. Juliet, grandchildren Camille & Brielle Anderson, Allison Yates (husband Trent), Emily Erlandson (husband Austin), & Caroline Kroll, great grandchildren Mollie, London, Trinity & Micah Yates, and Levi Erlandson, and many beloved cousins, nieces & nephews.

Jim was an internationally known & respected medical researcher who did groundbreaking medical research at the University of Kentucky. Jim was a prolific writer, published 400 professional articles for notable medical publications, published nine books, one of which was and is used as a guide for managing diabetes. During the height of his career, Jim was a regular speaker / presenter to both professional & lay audiences, consulted regularly by international media regarding medical research to help educate the public on good health practices. Jim attributed his professional success to Jesus Christ & mission to serve. Jim was well loved & respected by his patients to whom he was completely dedicated.

Jim & Gay are members of Tulip Grove Baptist Church, this after active church memberships, dating back to Jim & Gay meeting at a church camp as Jim entered medical school.

In Jim's later years Jim suffered from dementia, but remained the family "pray-er", leading blessings at family events with clarity & sincerity, demonstrating a remarkable legacy of a lifetime of praying.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving & supportive care of the McKendree family, especially the sensitive care of McKendree's Memory Care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any contributions to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org)

or Brain Research Foundations (www.thebrf.org).

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 6th, 2025, at 02:30 p.m. at McKendree Chapel in Hermitage. Inurnment will follow the service in Mt. Juliet Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends for a brief visitation on Saturday, September 6th from 01:00 p.m. until time of service.

I did not get to spend as much time with Uncle Jim as I wish I could have. But he was so great to me when I did get to see him. He is now reunited with Granddad and their parents. Go rest high on that mountain, Uncle Jim!
