James Lewis Anderson

James Lewis Anderson, age 77, of Anderson, South Carolina, departed this life on March 6, 2026, at his home.

He was born February 23, 1949, in Manhattan, New York, to the late Arleen I. Robertson Anderson and the late Marion Anderson, Sr.

James was reared in the historic Harlem neighborhood and attended school in the Harlem School District. He was later employed with Con Edison Electric Company.

He was united in marriage to Venzella Porter Anderson.

James leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Venzella Porter Anderson; two sons, Van D. Anderson of Anderson, South Carolina, and Marleek (Barbara) Anderson of Seattle, Washington; and one daughter, Medina L. (Jonathan) Kay of Concord, North Carolina.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Kyeana Harrison, Remi Anderson, Jasmine (Roshouny) Johnson, Jonan Kay, and Tiana Kay; four great-grandchildren, Adah, Anthony, Kayleigh, and Isaiah; one aunt, Claretha Atkinson; two great-aunts, Novella Wooden of Surry County, Virginia, and Alfreda Jenkins of Richmond, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Arleen I. Robertson Anderson and Marion Anderson, Sr., his sister Marie D. Walker, and his brother Marion Anderson, Jr.

His memory will forever live in the hearts of those who loved him.
