James Apathy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jardine Funeral Home, Inc. - Strongsville on May 23, 2024.
James Anthony Apathy, 72, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024, in Truckee, California while visiting his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Born on July 5, 1951, in Ohio to the late Albert and Arline Apathy, Jim grew into a remarkable man who touched the lives of many with his kindness and generosity.
Jim's journey through life was one marked by devotion and love. A loving husband of 42 years to Lori (Morgan). He was a caring father to his son Brian Apathy (Jodi) and daughter Becky Casanega (Chris), guiding them with a gentle hand and a steady heart. His role as a grandfather to Kennedy, Maddox, and Covin was one he cherished deeply; his grandchildren were the light of his life, and their love for him was a testament to the joy he brought into their lives.
Survived by his siblings Margaret Nolan (Gary), Albert, Kathy Manning (Tim), Janet Renz (Bob), the late Paul (Cindy), Thomas (Janet), Mary Tolar, and Barbara Prusovic (late Nick), and predeceased by his brother Danny (Shari). His presence was a source of comfort and laughter within the family, and his absence will be felt profoundly.
Jim was a proud graduate of Midpark High School, class of 1969. His work ethic and dedication were evident throughout his career, especially during his 15 years as a Bulk Handler with Cargill Salt Mine. He retired in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment to excellence.
Beyond his professional life, Jim had many interests that kept him busy and brought him immense joy. He was an avid golfer and cherished the time spent on the greens with his son Brian, son-in-law Chris, and a close circle of friends. His passion for gardening was unmatched; he took great pride in creating deer-free, impenetrable gardens where he grew an abundance of fruits and vegetables. Jim was also known for sharing informative, yet random, facts that often left his family and friends both enlightened and entertained.
An avid reader, Jim found solace in the pages of books, and his love for the outdoors was evident in the legendary bonfires he hosted. These gatherings were a testament to his love for good company and the simple pleasures of life. His care for his pets showed his compassionate and nurturing nature, and his coin collection was a hobby that brought him great satisfaction.
Jim's grandchildren will fondly remember the surprise packages he sent, filled with candy, thoughtful gifts, and collector coins. These tokens of affection were just one of the many ways Jim expressed his love and left a lasting impact on those he held dear.
VISITATION will be held on TUESDAY, May 28th from 4pm – 6pm at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 Pearl Road, Strongsville. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held, same day, beginning at 6pm.
