Wayne Atchley

James “Wayne” Atchley, 88, of Abilene, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2026, in Abilene.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 5, 2026, at The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Rd.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at North Park Baptist Church, 1525 Anson Ave, Abilene, with Pastor’s Louis Johnson and Joe Grizzle officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m., in Rough Creek Cemetery, Novice, Texas.

Wayne was born in Coleman, Texas to Frankie Etta (Crook) and Aubrey Carroll “A.C.” Atchley on Mother’s Day May 10, 1937. He graduated from Novice High School in 1955. He started work with Dowell at a young age and worked as an Equipment Operator, Sales, District Manager and Regional Sales before retiring after 30 years. He served in the National Guard for eight years. He married Janice Lee Ramsey in Abilene on August 11, 1990. Wayne was a faithful member of North Park Baptist Church for many years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Destri Atchley; brothers Robert “R.C.” Chaille Atchley and Russell Atchley.

Wayne is survived by his wife Janice of Abilene; son, Dennis Atchley and wife Bettie of Magnolia; step-son, Aaron Powers of Grapevine; step-daughter, Gwen Crowe and husband J.D. of Kyle; he is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be; Chris Atchley, Justin Atchley, Hunter Atchley, Destri Atchley, Emmett Crowe, and Jack Crowe.
