Mr. James Arthur Austin, Sr., age 83 of Stuart, Virginia went to be with his Savior Jesus on Tuesday, March 17, 2026. He was born in Danville, Virginia, on November 21, 1942, to the late Oscar Lee Austin and Merle Dulcie Yeatts Austin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Emerson Austin, one brother, Jerry Hudson Austin; and two stepchildren, Wayne Spangler and Beverly Curry.
James loved reading his Bible and was a faithful member of Collinstown Presbyterian Church. He loved watching baseball (especially his Dodgers, Braves, and Red Sox), auto racing, and spending time with his family. James had a big smile, loved to tell stories, and enjoyed making other people laugh. James worked for Pepsi Bottling Company for nearly 40 years retiring as a Service Manager.
Left to cherish the memories of James are his loving wife, Myrna Cox Austin; two sons, James (Jimmy) Austin, Jr. (Trish), and Michael Austin (Melanie); a stepson, Joey Spangler (Lisa) ; ten grandchildren, Chris Austin, Lori Austin, Logan Howell, Britton Howell, Thad Curry, Jordan Spangler, Kirsten Spangler, Chelsea Spangler, Misty Hamm (Jeff), and Pandy Spangler; one brother, Leonard Austin; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family of Mr. Austin will receive friends at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. The funeral will be immediately following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Shaun Draughn officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to The American Cancer Society.
