James was born on March 20, 1987, in Sterling, CO to Tamra Elizabeth Martinez and Cruz Sanchez Avalos. James was met at home by his brother Cruz. James's dad passed away when he was 3 years old. He was raised by his mom Tammy and stepdad John Futch, aka Grandpa to James. He started his learning journey at Iliff Head Start. He went on to Campbell Elementary, Sterling Junior High School and then to Sterling High School. He received his GED from Morgan Community College while staying with his Aunt Herminia and Uncle Jesse in Ft. Morgan. A favorite school memory of James's was for 8th grade continuation; he and nine friends rented a limo! Boy did they look full of themselves in that limo!

He made many lifelong friends during school and throughout his life. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life. He was fiercely protective of his family and friends!

James loved to write poems and letters. He was very talented at drawing calligraphy. There are many of his pictures around. He was proud of his drawings. He also loved to play the guitar on Pearl St. in Boulder. He had many colorful stories about that!! James had a very strong faith in God. He was also very spiritual and seen many beautiful things in his surroundings. Whatever job he did, he tried to do it well. He gave 110%. He was blessed with four beautiful children.

James will be missed by many! He was loved and he loved back. Our hearts will forever be missing a piece. He was truly a free spirit. He wandered but he always found his way back. We love you, James. Now you are home and at peace.

Many were waiting for him when he went to Heaven; his father Cruz Avalos, grandparents, Crespin Martinez, Felipe (Celia) Avalos, Norbert (Jerrene) Eilert, Nyrene Futch, Phillip Futch; uncles Hector Urquidez, Eleazar Canas, Rick Futch, Guadalupe Ortiz; aunt Patricia Marreel; cousins Shaena Kiel, Sylvia Urquidez, and Guadalupe (Lupito) Ortiz.

James is survived by his parents Tamra (John) Futch; brothers Cruz Avalos and Cody Futch and daughter Jordan; sister Jenna (Dillon May) Futch and son Oliver; children Joseph (Lindsay Noisat Fox) Avalos, Ariana Avalos, Isabella Avalos, and Julian Ruiz and the love of his life Tainasha Ruiz; all the Ruiz Family, aunts and uncles Ricky "Rico" Martinez, Janae (Larry) Gertner, Michelle (Michael Van Buren) Sanchez, Jeff (Misty) Martinez, Adina (Phil) Howard, Hermelinda Ortiz, Guadalupe Avalos, Gloria Avalos, Irma (Oracio) Heredia, Socorro Avalos, Manuela Avalos, Felipe Avalos, Mary (Herminia) Avalos, Celia (Juan) Batrez, and Jesse Estrada.

He is also survived by more cousins, second, third and even fourth cousins to count just by his immediate family! And many of those lifelong friends.
