James Robert “Pop” Ballinger, 83, died Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Maury Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, December 22, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Bro. Frank Webb and Lorrie Primm officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery in Culleoka. The family will visit with friends Monday from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. He was born on August 21, 1942 in Gallatin, TN to the late Cordell Ballinger and the late Lucille Bush Ballinger. James was an avid Alabama fan and a retired truck driver for Gary Bentley Trucking.
Survivors include his wife Linda Faye Harvey Ballinger whom he married on October 24, 1979 of Culleoka; daughter Gena Cahill (Christian) of Culleoka; three grandchildren, Lindzi Tilghman (Kyle), Yale Cahill, and Stevie Ballinger; four brothers, Leon Ballinger (Nancy), Kenneth Ballinger (Dorothy), Charles Ballinger (Linda), and Bill Ballinger; two great grandchildren, Atlas Tilghman and Arden Tilghman; several nieces and nephews; and Moe, his little dog that was his best friend and companion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons Steve Ballinger and Stanley Ballinger; two sisters, Shirley Kelley and Hattie Lou Brannon; and a brother Doyle Ballinger.
Active pallbearers will be Tim Lee, Jason Kelley, Shane Luna, Scott Luna, Donnie Walls and David Walls. Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Primm, Ronnie Bates and Richard Dunn.
