James Barnes, III Obituary
James Wesley Barnes, III 75, of Pikeville passed away Friday, August 9, 2024. A special gathering of friends and family will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
He was raised in the Rock Ridge Community. He received his undergraduate and graduate degrees from NC State University. James worked in research and retired from NC DOT in the Roadside Environmental Division.
James’ favorite past times were fishing, hunting and playing golf, but he especially enjoyed surf fishing at the outer banks. His granddaughter, Leia said he was a good man.
James is survived by his sons, Wes Barnes, and Johnathan Barnes and wife, Michelle; granddaughters, Leia and Alexis; sisters, Mary Margaret Kuhn and Elizabeth Barnes, and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret Barnes, and his sisters, Johnanna Graves and Linda Pavitt.
