James Elton Barnhart

James Elton Barnhart, age 69, of Dallas, TX passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023 in a Dallas, TX Hospice Facility after a lengthy battle with cancer.

James "Jim" was born in Nacogdoches, TX on July 1, 1953, where he started his career as a Disc Jockey at the early age of 16 years old. He was on the air of most of the local radio stations of the time KEEE, KJCS, and KSFA where he went by the name JJ Jameson. He also worked at KTRE-TV for a short period of time.

In his twenties, he struck out pursuing larger markets in the career he loved. He worked as an on air personality in Victoria, Texas, Lake Charles, Louisiana, and San Antonio, Texas. He then moved to Chicago, Illinois working for ABC with the "Real Country" format where he was broadcast nationwide, where he used the name Jim Casey until his retirement. He moved to Dallas, Texas after ABC moved their broadcast operation to Dallas.

He is survived by his mother, Goldene Barnhart of Garrison, TX, brother, Steve Barnhart and wife (Leesa) of Garrison, TX, Niece, Layla Killen and husband (Jamie) of Shelbyville, TX and great nieces Raylen Black of San Antonio, TX and Josalynn Black of Shelbyville, TX.

He is proceeded in death by his father, Ernest Barnhart.

Jim's last act of service was to unselfishly donate his body to science. If you would like to make a memorial donation, you can do so to the UT Southwestern Willed Body Program or to the American Cancer Society.

RIP Jimmy. You were always an inspiration to me as a younger cousin. I used to love going by the radio station and seeing what all you did there.
