James Robinson Barr, age 83, of LaGrange Park; beloved husband of Ardath (née Wilson); loving grandfather of Katelyn & James; dear brother of the late Susan (the late Richard) Olchak; cherished son of the late Evans Robinson and the late Sara Margaret Barr; father of Laura.

Jim graduated from Franklin High School, Franklin, PA, and Indiana State College in Indiana, PA (now Indiana University of PA). He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army at graduation. He attended military training schools and served at various postings in the United States, two 3 year tours in Germany and one combat tour in Vietnam. He also completed his military commitment, serving eight years in the reserves at Ft Sheridan, IL, and retired from the Army with rank of Lt Colonel.

Military awards include Army Commendation Medal (1 st Oak Leaf Cluster), Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, (1 st Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Unit Citaton, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal.

After discharge from active duty in 1980, he was employed at ComEd in Emergency Planning, located in Chicago and at Braidwood Station. After retiring from ComEd he worked at KCI Engineering.

He enjoyed traveling, looking at maps, old movies, telling stories, Swing and the original Rock and Roll music, spending time with family - especially with his wife, in addition to his grandkids, and model railroads.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1pm on Saturday, September 13 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church of LaGrange, 203 S. Kensington Ave., LaGrange, IL 60526. Interment at the church columbarium will be held privately.

Memorial donations in Jim's name to Emmanuel Church Endowment Fund or Army Emergency Relief will be greatly appreciated.
