Gail Barr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home - Tidewater Drive Chapel on Feb. 2, 2026.
Gail Louise Barr, 79, passed away on January 27, 2026, in Norfolk, Virginia, after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma.

Gail was born on August 11, 1946, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She later moved with her parents, Edward and Thelma Barr, to Virginia, where she made her home for the rest of her life. Gail graduated from Gar-Field Senior High School in Woodbridge in 1964, forming many lifelong friendships that she treasured deeply.

Gail remained close to her home in Woodbridge for most of her life, devoting herself to her family, friends, work, and her many hobbies and interests. She loved to read, cross stitch, and crochet. A devoted animal lover, Gail especially adored her adopted cats.

Gail moved to Norfolk in 2024 to be closer to her son, John.

Above all else, the true center of Gail's life was her family. She is survived by her sons, John Gefrich and David Gefrich (Sandy), and her daughter, Heather Drane (Macdonald III). She was a proud grandmother to Andrew Weiffenbach (Amanda), Josie Mack (Logan), Alex Gefrich, Jenna Gefrich, Macdonald Drane IV (Lauren), and Kevin Drane, and a beloved great-grandmother to Macdonald V, Griffin, Kenzie, Harper, and Ryker.

Gail is also survived by her brother, Walter Barr (Tina), and her sister, Jean DeRosa (Matt), as well as her nieces and nephews: Mathew Murphy, Mathew DeRosa, Michael DeRosa, Sam Barr, and Amanda Jordan.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Thelma Barr, and her daughter-in-law, Yvonne Gefrich.

A service honoring Gail's life will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home on Tidewater Drive.
