James Michael Benzo, 88 of Follansbee, WV, passed away suddenly on Monday, February 9, 2026 at his residence.

James was born on April 2, 1937, in Follansbee, WV. He was the son of the late Michael Benzo and Helen (Shak) Benzo.

James proudly served his country in the United States Army, a commitment that reflected his lifelong sense of duty and service. After dedicating 33 years to Weirton Steel, he embraced a new chapter as a cost accountant, showing his willingness to learn and grow even after a long career. His faith was an important part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Olde St. John Episcopal Church. James also found fellowship and purpose through his many affiliations, including Wellsburg Masonic Lodge #2 AF&AM, the Scottish Rite of Wheeling, Osiris Temple, the Northern Panhandle Shrine Club, and the Elks Lodge #1553 of Wellsburg, where he formed lasting friendships and gave back to his community.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bob" Benzo.

James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janet (Ryan) Benzo of Follansbee, WV, two sisters-in-law, Patty Wetzel of Newton Falls, OH and Ruth Ice of Mannington, WV, two nephews, Ryan Wetzel and Joshua Ice, two nieces, Tera Kauffman and her husband, David and Josalyn Ice and her husband, Scott Molina and several great nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be received on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 4:00-7:00 PM and again on Friday, February 13, 2026 from 10:00 until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 AM at the James Funeral Home, Follansbee, WV (304)527-1717 with Reverend Benjamin Wright, presiding.
