James Bishop Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Meadors Funeral Home - Republic Chapel on Dec. 31, 2025.
James "Jim" Bishop, 86, of Brookline, Missouri, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2025. He was born on April 21, 1939, in Springfield, Missouri, to James W. and Loretta M. Bishop. Jim was a proud and dedicated member of the Masons Lodge and the Local Laborers Union 665, where he faithfully served for 65 years. At the time of his passing, he was honored as the oldest living union member in the area with the most years of service, a distinction that reflected his lifelong commitment to the labor community. Jim built a long and respected career in road construction, working for Bridges, Master–Jackson, and APAC, where he developed lasting friendships and countless stories that he loved to share. Outside of work, Jim enjoyed the simple pleasures that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved spending time at the horse races, caring for the family farm, and especially quail hunting with his dad and his beloved dogs-memories he held closest to his heart. A natural storyteller, Jim cherished every opportunity to talk about his years in construction and the many people he met along the way. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, James W. Bishop and Loretta M. Bishop, and his brother, Larry Joe Bishop. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Anna May Bishop; their children, Scott Bishop and wife Cherie, Lee Bishop and wife Rita, and Lori Bishop; his grandchildren, Shannon Crain, Ryan Bishop and wife Hayley, Kelly Brown, Shayla (Holmes) Pendergrass and husband Scott; and his great-grandchildren, Tamara Crain, Courtney Crain, Derek Crain, and Everett Bishop. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jim's name to Central Christian Church, 1475 N Washington Avenue, Springfield, MO 65802.
