James Bogan Obituary
James Duane Bogan, 86, of Asheville, went to be with Jesus on Monday, July 8, 2024, at his home following a long struggle with heart disease. He would have turned 87 on July 28th.
Born to the late Roy and Lassie Bogan of Swannanoa, Duane Bogan married Allie Rebecca Chandler only 5 months after meeting her at the skating rink in Asheville. Together they had 4 children: Debby Sammons, Richard Bogan, Maria Johnson and Karen Davis.
He was a loving father and husband who always had many interests and hobbies in addition to his family. He worked professionally as a Tool and Die maker but also enjoyed local auctions, made jewelry from gems, went digging for antique glass bottles, and loved to bow hunt, fish, go camping, and travel. He always maintained a tropical fish aquarium with angel fish, his favorite. He loved to study the Bible, go to church, attend tent meetings and revivals, and listen to gospel music. He was raised in The Church of the Nazarene and served as a Sunday school teacher for most of his life. He most recently attended Oteen Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Allie, and one grandchild, Jeremy Sammons. He is an only child. Survivors include his 4 children, Richard (Lisa), Maria (Mike), Karen (Johnny), and Debbie (James); 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with the 8th expected in September, 2024.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 13, 2024, at 1pm at Penland Family Funeral Home at 125 South Ave, Swannanoa, NC. Rev. Phil Hurst and Rev. James Lamb will officiate. A short graveside service and interment will follow at Sky View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
