James Boozer Obituary

James Michael "Mike" Boozer Sr., 89, of Jacksonville, Alabama, passed away on October 7, 2025. Mike was born in Jacksonville on January 12, 1936, to James Aubrey and Amy Hamric Boozer. He attended Jacksonville High School and then joined the Air Force in 1955. After completion of his service, he attended the University of Alabama, graduating as an electronic engineer. He worked with several companies in the early days of the space program on the Saturn and Gemini projects, living in Huntsville, AL, Satellite Beach, FL, and Houston, TX. After leaving aerospace, he later relocated to Asheville, NC, then Washington, NJ, before finally arriving on Longboat Key, FL.; by far his favorite place. He enjoyed a long career in several leadership and management positions but always enjoyed designing and solving problems. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating and fishing but, most of all, he loved living on the Gulf. He would often go down to the dock just to "see what was stirring," as he found it fascinating. He was incredibly intelligent and witty. He thoroughly enjoyed British humor and science fiction. He was always very kind and giving; volunteering countless hours to the United Way. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joann Mauldin Boozer; daughter, Patricia Anne Boozer; and grandson, Adam Michael Hoff. He is survived by his partner, Sally Mauldin; son, J. Michael Boozer Jr. (Linda); grandchildren, Anna Laudumiey (Aarol), Stephen Hobbs (Brittney), and Jessica; and great-granddaughter, Addison. It was his desire not to have a traditional service, but rather a small gathering of family and friends. If you are so inclined, a donation to Arc of Hunterdon County, (53 Frontage Rd., Suite 150, Hampton, NJ 08827), or to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, on behalf of Mike, and in memory of his cherished grandson, Adam Hoff, would be appreciated.
