James Brown Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Morris Funeral Home - Hemingway on Feb. 26, 2026.
James Wesley Brown, Sr

January 30, 1953 - January 9, 2026

James was born in Hemingway, South Carolina. He graduated from Clemson University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Phycology. As an active member of the First Methodist Church in Hemingway, he sang in the choir and participated in Sunday School until his career with Dartco/Tupperware Manufacturing took him to Augusta, GA. After several years in Augusta, he was transferred to Morden, Manaitoba. His desire to be close to Clemson University eventually landed him in the Upstate of South Carolina in the Seneca area where he remained until his passing.

James' passion was his family, flying airplanes with his Dad and Uncle. He also enjoyed sailing on Lake Keowee and Lake Hartwell.

He is survived by his son, James Wesley Brown, Jr, daughter-in-law, Jessica Whitley Brown, and stepson Charles Gregory Springs.

James was predeceased by his father Kenneth Merell and his mother Frances J. Brown. Also by two brothers Teddy Brown and David Brown.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Old Johnsonville Cemetery at 2:00 pm. Family and friends visitation will be held after the service at Shady Rest Restaurant at 477 S. Georgetown Hwy, Johnsonville, SC 29555.
