James Arthur Buchtel, 75 of St. Joseph passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, December 23, 2024 at Pike Funeral Home, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy., Bridgman, MI 49106. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donation to The Alano House of Southwest Michigan (www.alanohouseofswmichigan.com) which serves those with alcoholism. Online condolences accepted at www.PikeFH.com.

Jim was born on August 3, 1949 in South Bend, Indiana the son of the late Thomas “Jack” and Charlotte Ann (Yoder) Buchtel. He graduated from Plymouth High School and attended Purdue University where he graduated with a degree in Mechanical Design Engineering in 1971. That same year he married the love of his life, Debra J. (Sherk) Buchtel. He was the proud father of April L. Buchtel and Marc A. Buchtel. He loved doing activities with his children, daughter-in-law Danielle (Bronson) Buchtel, his grandchildren, Allen, Hailey, Malachi, Clare, Klowey, Aaden, and Paytyn, as well as his granddaughter-in-law, Jamie and his great granddaughter, Willow.

He proudly served on the Board of Directors of The Alano House for many years. He loved to travel and spend time with his family. Jim loved his saltwater aquarium; taking care of it and especially buying new fish. He was a huge fan of Purdue football and basketball and loved to watch the Green Bay Packers play.

Survivors include his wife, children, and grandchildren; along with his brother, Don Buchtel and his wife, Deb; sisters-in-law, Nancy and Tammy Sherk; and his nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are entrusted to Pike Funeral and Cremation Services, The Boyd Chapel, 9191 Red Arrow Hwy, Bridgman.
