James Hamilton Bundick, 79, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully at home on February 23, 2026, after a 13-month battle with cancer. While we are deeply saddened by Jim's passing, we are grateful for the rich and wonderful life he lived.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Lynne; their children and grandchildren: Brent and Tara Bundick of Overland Park, Kansas, and their sons, James and Tommy; and Kimberly and Paul Rice of New Haven, Connecticut, and their children, Louie, Margot, and Cooper. He is also survived by his sisters, Charlotte Killmon and Sue Henderson (Andy). He was preceded in death by his parents, James Hamilton and Annie Lou Bundick, and his brother-in-law, Jerry Killmon.
Jim was known for his iconic laugh, passion for golf, and love of Formula One racing. He was an inspiration and mentor to many, as well as a genuine and loyal friend. Above all else, Jim was most proud of his children and grandchildren.
He was born and raised on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Jim attended the Newport News Apprentice School, where he played football, wrestled and served as president of his 1969 graduating class. In recognition of his athletic achievements, he was inducted into the school's All-90's Football Team and into its Hall of Fame in 2023.
After graduation Jim received a scholarship to attend Marshall University, where he was a member of The Young Thundering Herd football team in the years following the tragic 1970 plane crash. He graduated in 1975.
Jim enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the tire industry, which led his family to Wheeling, West Virginia; Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Leawood, Kansas; and St. Charles, Illinois. In every place they lived, Jim and Lynne formed treasured and lasting friendships. His career also provided opportunities to participate in numerous golf events, including being part of the winning Ryder Cup Pro-Am Invitational team in 2004, as well as travel throughout the world. Among his most memorable experiences was the honor of attending a private reception with Pope John Paul II.
Following his retirement and a move to
Williamsburg, Virginia in 2007, Jim partnered with a former colleague to a launch a successful window film company.
