James Burness Obituary

James Burness, 94, of East Haven, passed away October 18, 2024 at Milford Health and Rehabilitation. He was born June 24, 1930 in New Haven to Joseph and Mary (Pitteway) Burness. James is survived by his three sons; Jay Burness (Lisa) of Prospect, Joseph Burness (Karen) of Rocky Hill and Gary Burness of East Haven. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Jeffrey Burness, Eric Burness (Danielle) and Scott Burness along with three great-grandchildren, Aubrey Burness, Jayson Burness and Brooke Burness. He is also survived by his siblings; Alan Burness and Peter Burness (Carol).
James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Eleanore (Stewart) Burness (1989) and brothers, John and Eugene Burness.
James proudly served in the United States Air Force, while serving his country and stationed in Guam, he once worked on the B-29 bomber "Enola Gay." After serving in the Air Force, he worked at Armstrong Rubber Company in West Haven with over 30 years of service, and later retiring from Schick in Milford.
James enjoyed cooking, especially Thanksgiving Day dinner, golfing, wood carving and watching old time TV shows like Star Trek and MASH. Most of all, James enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a proud husband, father and grandfather and was extremely honored to also have the title of GREAT grandfather.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 from 4 – 7 p.m. in the Clancy-Palumbo Funeral Home (Clancy Funeral Home), 43 Kirkham Ave., East Haven. A graveside service with US Air Force Military Honors will be held on Thursday, October 24 at 12 p.m. (Noon) in Beaverdale Memorial Park, 90 Pine Rock Ave., New Haven, CT (Please go directly to the cemetery on Thursday).
