James Burnett Obituary

James "Jim" Byard Burnett, 92, of Lady Lake, Florida (formerly of Boothwyn, PA), peacefully passed away on November 21, 2021, at Cornerstone Hospice Care while being visited and comforted by his wife and family members.
Jim very proudly served in the United States Army and fought in the Korean War. After his time in the service, he worked as a carpenter and construction foreman in and around Delaware County, Pennsylvania before retiring to the Villages in Lady Lake, Florida.
An avid bowler, he was inducted into the Delaware County (PA.) Athletes Hall of Fame in 1995 for his bowling accomplishments. He continued to remain active well into his retirement pitching horseshoes and competed in tournaments with the National Horseshoe Pitching Association. Jim was also an avid golfer and when he wasn't playing weekly scrambles with friends, he enjoyed watching the PGA tournaments on television.
A strong, kind, loving, and supportive husband and father, his knowledge and guidance were the foundation of his family. Jim cherished spending time with his wife and family, especially sharing time on his porch swing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The youngest of thirteen, he was preceded in death by his parents, Charles B. and Ruth A. (North) Burnett, his 12 siblings, Daughter-In-Law Traci (Spencer) Burnett and infant Grandson Dalton Spencer Burnett.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joyce, of Lady Lake, Florida, five children; Dewey (wife Irene) Burnett, Anna Mae Griffey, Jay Burnett, Cheryl (husband Jim) Stem, Tracy (husband Pat) Quigley, seven Grandchildren; Dennis (wife Jennafer) Griffey, Shawn (wife Jennifer) Griffey, Laura (husband Tom) Drames, Jessica Stem, Kevin (wife Tiffany) Burnett, Brittney Quigley, Kaycie Stem, along with seven Great-Grandchildren; Amelia Drames, Nathan Griffey, Hunter Griffey, Julianna Drames, Carson Griffey, Braxton Griffey and Brayden Griffey.
A private visitation will be held Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at 9:30am. Friends are invited to public visitation at 10:00 am with a celebration of his life to follow at Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 3975 Wedgewood Lane, The Villages, Florida, 32162. Burial will be at 2:00pm at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102 Ave, Bushnell FL 33513.
