Vera Broughton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hiers-Baxley Funeral & Cremation Life Event Center - Buffalo Ridge on Mar. 18, 2026.
Vera A. Broughton, 85, of The Villages, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026, at her home, surrounded by loving family.

Born on August 9, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Frank and Olympia Broughton, Vera lived a life filled with love, faith, and cherished memories. She is survived by her loving sons, Raymond W. Broughton III and his wife Debbie, along with their children Dylan and Olivia; and William F. Broughton and his wife Rebecca, with their daughter Francesca. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Raymond W. Broughton II.

Vera pursued higher education at Ohio University, where she was a proud member of the Phi Mu Sorority and honored as a Bobcat Queen. Her career spanned roles at United Airlines, Holiday Inns of America, and Ohio Savings Bank-each reflecting her dedication and versatility.

She grew up in Bay Village, Ohio, later residing in Westlake before moving to Calabash, North Carolina. There she and her husband Ray embraced the coastal lifestyle with beach walks, bike rides, and seashell collecting alongside dear friends. In retirement, they settled in The Villages, Florida, where they cultivated many meaningful friendships that enriched her life.

A woman of vibrant spirit and diverse interests, Vera found joy in boating (despite never learning to swim), golfing, yoga, water walking, quilting, and playing mah jongg.

Above all else, she treasured time spent with family and friends.

Vera will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

May her memory bring comfort to those she loved and who loved her in return.
