Joe Broughton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Englewood Community Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Feb. 27, 2026.
Joe Broughton passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2026, with his loving wife and family at his side. He was 83.

Joe married his high school sweetheart, Roberta Broughton, and together they raised a family grounded in loyalty, generosity, and hard work. He was a devoted father to Craig Broughton and his wife Brenda, proud grandfather to Meg and Marissa; and to Garth Broughton and his wife Petra, and cherished grandfather to Sean (Taylor) and Graham.

In 2004, Joe married Judy Broughton, and they built a loving and beautiful life together in Florida, sharing friendship, faith, and community in North Port. He will also be missed by Judy's family who he loved, Scott Engel ( Meghan), Becki Henry (Michael), and Lucas, Luna, and Hannah.

Joe entered the accounting profession directly out of high school, working diligently to earn his Chartered Accountant designation. Through determination and integrity, he rose to become a Private Business Partner with firms that ultimately became part of KPMG. He retired from partnership but continued serving a select group of long-standing clients until only a few years ago. His counsel was trusted not only for its technical strength but for the care and wisdom behind it.

His generosity extended well beyond his profession. Joe gave freely of his time and financial resources to strengthen the communities he loved. He served as a commissioner with the Hamilton Police Service and was a long-time member of the Stoney Creek Optimist Club. As a dedicated member of Rotary International, he embodied the principle of service above self.

Joe was known for entertaining, for bringing people together, and for maintaining lifelong friendships. In both Ontario and in North Port, his golf and faith communities were central to his life. He was not simply part of his community-he created community wherever he went.

Those who knew Joe will remember his steady presence, his generosity, and the way he invested deeply in people. His legacy lives on through his family, his friendships, and the many lives strengthened by his guidance and support.

Memorials are in planning for Canada and the US. In keeping with Joe's spirit, please raise a glass in his honour and remember him fondly.
