Amy M. Barrett, 71, of Endwell, NY, was reunited with her husband on February 23, 2026. She died peacefully at Mercy House of the Southern Tier following a courageous battle with cancer.
She is predeceased by her husband, Charles J. Barrett, and her parents, Paul and MaryEllen (Helfrich) McGowan.
Amy is survived by her devoted children, Maureen Patterson (Kipp) of Endwell, NY, Patrick Barrett (Laura) of North Port, FL; her treasured grandchildren Genevieve Marie Barrett, Gavin Thomas Barrett, and James William Patterson; her sister Ellen King (Robert) of Youngstown, OH, niece Kathleen Josey (Craig), nephews Robert and Kevin King; her cousins Thomas (MaryKate) McGowan, Ann (Daniel) Gallagher. Amy was also blessed with the companionship and support of her dear friend and partner, Kevin Denning. She is fondly remembered by a host of other beloved relatives and friends.
Amy was born and raised in York, PA. After completing high school at York Catholic Central, Amy graduated from Marywood University with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education, and earned a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Binghamton University.
Education was not simply her profession — it was her calling. She began her career in multiple Catholic schools, then married the love of her life, Charlie. Blessed with two beloved children, Amy embraced motherhood with the same devotion and patience that marked her classroom. As her family grew, so did her commitment to teaching. She began what would become the defining chapter of her professional life at Homer Brink School, where she concluded her remarkable career in education after 34 years. For nearly three decades at Homer Brink, she shaped generations of students with kindness, discipline, encouragement, and unwavering belief in their potential. Colleagues admired her dedication, her professionalism, and her commitment to the union.
She worked tirelessly for St. Joseph's Church, especially within the Hospitality Ministry that she loved so dearly. Whether helping at parish bazaars, preparing for ethnic dinners, organizing basket raffles, or serving at the beloved Christmas Tea, she gave her time generously and joyfully. Her hands were always busy, and her heart was always open. She also served reverently on the Parish Council, as well as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, and a greeter. For her, the church was not just a place of worship — it was a community to be served and cherished. Her faith was not merely spoken; it was lived daily through action, kindness, and steadfast commitment.
The family would like to thank the compassionate staff at Broome Oncology, Guthrie Hospice, and Mercy House of the Southern Tier for the excellent care they provided.
A Funeral Mass for Amy will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 10 am at St. Joseph’s Church, 207 Hayes Ave, Endicott. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends on Friday February 27th from 4-6 pm at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main Street, Endicott.
