James Thomas (Tom) Burrell died peacefully on October 30, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. He was seventy-six years old.
Tom was the youngest and third son born to Mabel June and Delavan Burrell in La Junta, Colorado on May 9, 1949. He grew up in Rocky Ford, CO. As a young man, he worked for his family who operated the Burrell Seed CO in Rocky Ford. He graduated from Rocky Ford High School. He attended and graduated from Otero Junior College (OJC) in La Junta, CO. Upon graduation from OJC, he transferred to the University of Colorado in Boulder. There, he completed the requirements and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He spent his entire career in business/finance. He held leadership positions in urban and rural areas of the state-Denver, Colorado Springs, Trinidad. He retired in Pueblo, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents (Mabel and Delavan Burrell), his older brother John, his wives, Patricia Burrell, and Sandra Wagel Burrell. He is survived by his brother Dennis and sister-in-law Margaret Burrell (Pueblo) and Ernestine Kotthoff-Burrell (John), Aurora, CO as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
Tom was a quiet, reserved gentleman, who had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing stories with his family and friends. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling internationally including, Antarctica, South America, Europe, the Mediterranean, Italy and Greece.
He was an active member of the King of Kings Lutheran Church in Pueblo.
