James Stephon Burton, 62, departed this life on October 13, 2023. James was born in El Paso, TX on August 27, 1961. He graduated from Bel-Air High School in 1979 and upon graduation, enlisted into the United States Marine Corps where he earned the distinction of honor graduate during basic training and was awarded the Marine Corps Expeditionary Medal. After serving his country, James was admitted to the University of Texas at El Paso, where he played on the football team. James was known as a loyal son, brother, uncle, cousin, nephew, and friend.
James is preceded in death by his mother Georgia Louis Burton. He is survived by his father James Arthur Burton, his brothers Charles Burton (Patsy) and Troy Burton, his children Penelope Burton, James Stephon Burton Jr., Jamiah Alexander Burton, and two grandsons Boston Kash Burton and Alexander Jaye Burton. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. James was dearly loved and will be missed.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes - East, 750 N. Carolina. A Funeral Service will be held at 12:30 PM, Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes - East. Interment will follow at 2:00 PM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, 5200 Fred Wilson.
