James Brian Cannon (Bunevich), of Buford, Georgia, passed away peacefully, his loving wife Christine at his side, on August 14, 2025. Born on December 5, 1946, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Jim was the beloved son of the late Stanley and Margaret Bunevich. A proud graduate of the University of Dayton in 1968, as a member of the Phi Beta Alpha fraternity. He served his country as a Russian translator with the Army Security Agency in Berlin, Germany, from 1969 to 1971. Jim was the President of the award-winning Three Bears Builders, a testament to his dedication and talent in the construction industry. His linguistic skills and compassionate spirit helped countless Russian families who emigrated to North Georgia, assisting them in finding doctors, employment, and a welcoming community. A talented musician, Jim loved playing the drums and was a cherished member of multiple worship teams throughout North Georgia, sharing his musical gift and uplifting spirit with others. Jim was married to Christine Carpenter Cannon for 57 years, a loving partnership marked by devotion and companionship. He was a devoted father to James B. Cannon, Jr. (Heather) of Gainesville, Georgia, and Jodi Rea (Jake) of Flowery Branch, Georgia. His daughter, Mary Garrison, predeceased him, but his love and memories continue to live on in his family. Jim was a great brother to Stanley Bunevich, Jr. (deceased), Thomas Bunevich (deceased) and Donna Chase (Rick). He was a proud grandfather to Amanda Barfield (New Smyrna Beach, FL), Zachary Cannon (Madison), Eli Cannon (Gainesville), Megan Garrison (KY), Micah Garrison (Buford), Rachel Garrison (Athens), and Cooper Wells (Flowery Branch). Jim was also a great-grandfather to Zeke and Lucas Barfield. Jim's warm spirit, kindness, and dedication to his family, community, and faith will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of Life, where friends and family can gather, will be held on Saturday, August 23, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Flanigan Funeral Home. Everyone is encouraged to bring their favorite stories of James to share.
