James Carden Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson Funeral Homes - Lexington on Jan. 30, 2026.
James Anthony Carden, born May 2, 1957, in Dublin, Virginia, passed away on January 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Better known as BoBo, Tony, or TC, he was a devoted family man whose greatest pride and joy were his children: Josh, Jacob, and Jordan Carden. He also shared a deep and enduring love with his fiancée and longtime partner, Lisa Hansen, who remained faithfully by his side throughout his cancer journey.

Tony is survived by his siblings Nick Carden (Becky Carden), Sarah Steiner, and Amy Carden, along with many extended family members and friends who became family along the way. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mama Sue and Big Al Carden.

A lifelong sports enthusiast and passionate football fan, Tony's love for the game began early. He played alongside his brother Nick and was coached by his father, Big Al, during his Little League years. Tony went on to become the first quarterback for Pulaski County Cougars and the last quarterback for the Dublin Dukes, holding the Pulaski County career passing record for more than 40 years. His passion continued through collegiate football at Concord College and never faded-especially when it came to Virginia Tech football, which he followed with unwavering loyalty.

Tony found peace and joy on the water and he had a special place in his heart for animals. He was a proud dog dad to Lola and Miss Mags, who were a treasured part of his family.

Above all, Tony will be remembered for his big heart, quiet strength, kind spirit, infectious laugh, a talented whistler, and a deep love for family and friends. He had a way of remembering names, and the impact people had on him. He left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

His legacy lives on through his children, his family, and the countless stories that will continue to be shared-often with laughter and always with love.

A memorial and celebration of life will be held at the family home in Dublin on May 9, 2026.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Lymphoma Research Foundation Lymphoma Research Foundation | Research. Community. Cure would be greatly appreciated.
