James E. Carlson

James E. Carlson, age 92, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2026, at Hunterdon Medical Center.

Born in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, Jim was the son of the late John and Harriette Carlson. He was raised in Ridgway and, after graduating from high school, proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. Jim served overseas during the Korean War, a time of service that remained a source of great pride throughout his life.

Upon returning home, Jim married the love of his life, Joyce Carlson, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage until her passing in 2025. Together they made their home in Califon, New Jersey, where they put down deep roots and became beloved members of the community, remaining there for the rest of their lives.

Jim had a deep appreciation for the small-town community he called home. He cherished his neighbors and held great admiration for the volunteers who serve the town

For many years, Jim worked as a bus driver for NJ Transit, where he took pride in his work and the people he met along the way. Prior to that, Jim worked with friends in the newspaper printing business.

In his free time, Jim was an avid bicyclist who enjoyed spending time outdoors and staying active. He was also a proud member of the Netcong VFW, maintaining a lifelong connection with fellow veterans.

Jim is survived by many loving nieces, nephews, close friends, and neighbors who will fondly remember his kindness, generosity, and quiet devotion to those around him. In addition to his beloved wife, Joyce, and his parents, he was predeceased by several family members who welcomed him into eternal rest.

A memorial service celebrating the lives of James and Joyce Carlson will be held at a later date. Please check back for future updates regarding service arrangements.
