James Carroll "J.C." Hancock, born on January 21, 1949, in Sumter, South Carolina, passed away on September 14, 2024. He lived a fulfilling life, dedicating 28 years of his career to DuPont, where he left an indelible mark with his hard work and commitment.

Mr. Hancock proudly served his country for three years in the United Army, demonstrating a spirit of service that extended beyond his military duties into his personal life. He was known for his deep love of animals, especially dogs, and his gentle nature endeared him to all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 48 years, Barbara Outlaw Hancock, of Bishopville; son, James Evan Hancock, and daughter-in-law, Crystal Hancock, also of Bishopville; and his cherished grandchildren, Austin Benton, Jacob Benton, his fiancée Ansley Morrison, and granddaughter Julia Hancock, who was truly the apple of his eye. He is also survived by his sister, Helen Geraldine Miller of Surfside Beach, sister-in-law Lucie Hancock, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hancock was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Julia Caughman Hancock, and his brother Harold Hancock. He was also preceded by his brother-in-law, Rev. Charles Miller.

The family will hold a memorial service to honor his life on Sunday,  September 22, 2024, at Norton Funeral Home in Bishopville, beginning at 3:00 PM. Following the service, there will be a visitation time of remembrance, providing an opportunity for family and friends to share their memories and reflect on a life well-lived.
