James G. Carrubba (1931-2025)
James Gasper Carrubba, 93, of Valley Stream, NY, passed away on February 14, 2025. Born on June 17,
1931, in Brooklyn, NY, he was a devoted husband to Barbara, and a loving father to James and Linda.
James attended Brooklyn College and majored in mathematics. After graduation, he served two years in
the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska. He returned to New York City to work at Equitable Life Insurance,
where he was among a small group that programmed Equitable's first computer. There, he met another
programmer, Barbara Hayden LaMar, whom he married in 1961. They moved to Baldwin, NY, and lived
on Stratford Road for more than 50 years. James concluded his career at Columbia University.
James was hard working and dedicated. In his spare time, he enjoyed photography, reading, listening to
classical music, and following current events.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anna Carrubba, and is survived by his wife
Barbara, his brothers Sylvester, Robert, and Thomas, his children James and Linda, and his five
grandchildren Jacqueline, Elizabeth, Katherine, Isabella, and Alessandro, as well as many friends and
extended family members who will miss him dearly.
A visitation will be held at Cecere Family Funeral Home at 2283 Grand Avenue in Baldwin, NY, on Friday, ebruary 21, 2025 from 10 AM to 12 Noon. Interment will be private
