James Caswell, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran and lifelong
public servant, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, just days before his 88th birthday.
Jim was the beloved husband of 65 years to Alberta, and the proud father of Deniese Caswell,
Theresa (Clay) Shaver, and Kevin Caswell. He was the cherished grandfather of Leah Yacks
(and her wife Alysha), Antoinette Caswell (and her partner Jon), Kalyn Caswell (and her
husband Neil), Grace Shaver, Logan Caswell, Clayre Shaver, Landon Caswell, Arianna Caswell,
and many treasured great-grandchildren who brought him endless joy. He was preceded in
death by his dear brother, Gerald Caswell.
After graduating Milford High School in 1956, Jim proudly served his country in the United
States Army from September 1956 to September 1959, including time in Germany with the
Military Police. His sense of duty and integrity continued long after his military service.
Jim spent more than three decades working at the General Motors Proving Grounds, where he
was a respected and reliable colleague. Beyond his professional life, he dedicated himself to the
community he loved. Jim served on the Milford Fire Department from 1961 to 1992, including
eight years as Fire Chief. His leadership, courage and commitment to protecting others left a
lasting impact on generations of firefighters and residents alike.
Following his retirement from the department, Jim continued his service as Milford Township
Supervisor from 1992 to 2000, after many years of involvement on township boards and
committees. He approached every role with humility, fairness and a deep care for the people of
his hometown.
Above all, Jim loved his family and his town. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his
dedication to service and the legacy of kindness and hard work he leaves behind.
A life well lived, a community well served and a family forever grateful.
