Mr. James Martin (Jim) Caves, 98, of Quincy, passed away at 1:42 p.m. Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.
He was born January 15, 1924 in Greenbush, Illinois, the son of Martie and Beulah (Simmons) Caves, and was known as "Martin" by many in his family. He married Lois Ann Atwater of Abingdon, Illinois, and she preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Constance M. Anderson (John) of Ceres, California, and Cynthia A. Evenson (Rick) of Leesburg, Florida; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Martie Caves and Beulah Simmons Caves Stegall, an adopted son, James Richard Caves (Floyd), four sisters, Cleta Rogers, Norma Floyd, Edna Mae VanVelsor and Mable LeFevre, and two brothers, Donald Caves and Ernest Caves.
Jim graduated from Avon High School and attended Browns Business College in Galesburg. He was a proud World War II Navy veteran and was stationed in China on a then top-secret assignment. He lived in California most of his adult life and retired from Corona Trucking in Corona, California. After retiring, he lived in Florida with his daughter Cynthia and family, and then moved to the Veterans Home in Quincy in 2011, where he made many friends. He enjoyed playing golf and shooting pool when he was young, winning many trophies for pool. In later years he enjoyed listening to and singing along with country music.
At his request, cremation will be accorded and no services will be held. His cremains will be buried next to his wife, Lois, in the Abingdon Cemetery. He was well loved and will be missed by many.
