James Frank Chandler, of Alexander, NC and formerly of Dandridge, TN, a proud veteran of the United States Army, passed away peacefully November 8, 2023. The son of Hezekiah and Pauline (Henderson) Chandler, James was born July 12, 1935 in Marshall, North Carolina and grew up in Piedmont, Tennessee. At the age of 18, James enlisted in the United States Army. He valued this service highly and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant . James retired from the United States Army then went on to retire from the Jefferson County Farmers Cooperative. He enjoyed farming and raising beef cattle.
James is preceded in death by his parents Hezekiah and Pauline (Henderson) Chandler; first wife Carrie Lou (Shipley) Chandler and their daughter, Angela Denise Chandler; second wife Dorothy Ann (Bullman) Chandler; sisters, Mammie Chandler (Bill) Whisenant and Hester Chandler (Luther) Morgan.
James is survived by sisters, Mary Chandler (Buddy) Crooke; Ruby Chandler (Mike) French; brothers, Eddie Chandler; Tommy (Peggy) Chandler; Steve Chandler; son, James David (Marie) Chandler; grandson, Jonathan DeLeonardo (Fiancée Sasha Clabo); grandson, Marlow Franklin Chandler; great granddaughter, Gracie Olsen, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and family at Farrar Funeral Home in Dandridge, Tennessee on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 2:00pm-4:00pm with a service to follow. A Military Burial Service will be at held on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 11:00am at the Bullman Gossnel Cemetery on Lonesome Mountain in Marshall, North Carolina.
