James Brown Cheshire, aged 81, of Leesburg, Georgia, formerly of Leary, Georgia passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 23, 2025 at Lee County Health and Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 26, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Leary City Cemetery, Leary, GA. Rev. Matthew Schluckebier
Born on July 10, 1944, in Bluffton, Georgia, to the late Ben and Maggie (Farmer) Cheshire. James dedicated many years to his career at Palm land Equipment Company, beyond his professional life, he was known for his love of woodworking, repairing small equipment, yard work, and fishing. He had an admirable knack for staying busy, never allowing himself to slow down. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and he loved Jesus with his whole heart. Anything that needed to be built his hands could make it happen. He never met a stranger and he always could find a way to crack a joke. His dog Roxy is his best friend and he loved her endlessly.
James was preceded in death by his loving wife, Rebecca Joan Allen Cheshire, siblings, TJ Cheshire, Robert Cheshire, Billy Cheshire, and Eugene Cheshire.
He is survived by his son, David Cheshire (Lisa Bartlett), of Terrell County, granddaughter Taylor Cruz (Pedro Cruz) and great-granddaughter Lakelynn Denham, both of Leesburg, Georgia. His siblings: Ben Cheshire, Jr., Ellis Cheshire and his wife Caroline, and Carolyn Jones and his beloved dog Roxy.
Visitation will be held at Mathews Funeral Home in Albany, Georgia, on November 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
