In Loving Memory of James Murray Connelly
James Murray Connelly, born on October 14, 1931, peacefully departed this life on February 6, 2024, at South Georgia Medical Center. He was the cherished son of Olivin Dodge Connelly and Marie Agnes (Murray) Connelly, both of whom have preceded him in death.
Jim Connelly was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle. He has been a member of St John the Evangelist Catholic Church since he moved to Valdosta in 1975.
He played and excelled in multiple sports in high school, including football, basketball and baseball. He enjoyed golfing for many years and watched sports his entire life. He also enjoyed collecting coins and stamps.
After graduating from Depew High School, he pursued several years of college education, shaping a foundation for a life well-lived. A proud veteran, James served in the US Army from 1952 to 1954, before marrying the love of life, Barb, 69 years ago. He loved her and his entire family unconditionally.
James is survived by his devoted spouse of 69 years, Barbara May Connelly (Schutt). Together, they created a legacy of love and commitment. He leaves behind four loving children: Kevin Connelly (late wife Joan [2015]) of Minneapolis, MN; Jim Connelly and wife Jennifer of Valdosta, GA; Joan Robertson and husband Gary of Hahira, GA; and Steven Connelly and wife Erika of Minneapolis, MN.
His memory lives on through eight grandchildren: Paul Nutting, Molly Nutting and wife Christie, Megan Roden and husband Chuck, Michael Walker and wife Laura, Chad Walker, R.J. Yancey, Matthew Yancey, and Maxwell Connelly. Additionally, he is survived by thirteen great-grandchildren: Leo, Nico, Maya, Tyler, Lucie, Alden, Abigail, Anna Kate, Dixon, Rachel, Zelia Ann, Cayden and Maxwell.
James is also remembered by his siblings Martin Connelly and wife Estelle of Lancaster, NY, Mariette Miller (late husband John [1998]) of Lancaster, NY, Neil Connelly and wife Trish of Lancaster, NY. Unfortunately, he was predeceased by two sons, Keith and Scott Connelly.
James Murray Connelly's impact extended beyond family, touching the lives of many dear friends and extended family members. In honoring his memory, we celebrate a life filled with love, service, and lasting connections.
A funeral mass will be held for James at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on Saturday, February 17th at 12:00 pm. There will also be a visitation for the family to greet friends and loved ones prior to the service from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.
