James Conte Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McCrery & Harra Funeral Home and Crematory - Concord Pike on Jan. 21, 2026.
James F. Conte, affectionately known as Jamie, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Wilmington, Delaware, at the age of 83.

Born on October 15, 1942, in Chester, Pennsylvania, Jamie was the son of James and Frances Conte. From an early age, he carried the qualities that would define him throughout his life: a kind heart, a quick wit, and an easy way of making people feel comfortable in his presence.

Jamie was a proud graduate of St. James High School in Chester and went on to earn a scholarship and degree in Mechanical Engineering from Pennsylvania Military College. He spent his entire professional career with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company, a testament to his loyalty, work ethic, and steady character.

Outside of work, Jamie was a true "do-it-yourself" enthusiast. He loved working on cars, fixing things with his hands, and tackling projects simply for the satisfaction of seeing them done right. He cherished meeting up with friends for lunch or dinner, but above all, Jamie was a devoted family man.

Those who knew him remember that he was always fun to be around-generous with both his time and his spirit. He gave back quietly and faithfully through organizations such as the Knights of Columbus and Meals on Wheels, never seeking recognition, only the chance to help.

Jamie is survived by his beloved wife, Anita; his son Kevin (Diane), his daughter Donna; his grandchildren Dominic, Brandy, Gregory, Anthony, Vincent, and Marina; and his siblings John, Jeanne, Judy (Ed), Joan (Joe), Joseph (Elizabeth), and Jeffrey.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Kimberly, his son-in-law James and his sister Janice, all of whom remained close to his heart.

Jamie will be remembered not just for what he did, but for how he made people feel-welcome, valued, and at ease. His kindness, humor, and generosity leave a lasting imprint on all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Wilmington, DE.
