James Cordon Obituary
James Walter "Jimmy" Cordon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away on September 22, 2025, in his hometown of Belhaven, North Carolina. Born on September 13, 1958, also in Belhaven, Jimmy lived a fulfilling 67 years surrounded by the people and places he cherished most.
A man deeply connected to the water and the land, Jimmy spent his life as a commercial fisherman, a calling that allowed him to embrace his love for the river and the sea. From a young age, he grew up on the water, developing a profound respect and admiration for its beauty and bounty. Whether he was out on his boat or simply enjoying the serenity of the water, Jimmy found peace and purpose in the natural world.
In addition to his work, Jimmy had a wide array of interests that kept him busy and fulfilled. He also had a passion for riding his motorcycle and playing the drums. He was a kind-hearted, sweet and easy-going person who deeply loved his family.
Jimmy was happiest when he was outdoors, whether working on the land or grilling up a feast for loved ones. His culinary skills were especially evident when it came to seafood; he had a particular fondness for shrimp and oysters, which he expertly prepared and shared with those around him.
Preceded in death by his parents, Thad and Martha Mae Cordon, and his brothers Timmy, Tracy, and Ronny Cordon, Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mendy Cordon; his daughter, Callie Davis and her husband Cody; his son, Ethan Cordon; and his cherished grandchildren, Ryleigh and Brody. He is also survived by his brothers Sonny Cordon and his wife Linda, and Larry Cordon and his wife Terry, along with several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
