His journey began at Troy State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in Fire Science Management, setting the stage for a career that would see him make significant contributions to public safety and community welfare.

Stewart served honorably in the U.S. Air Force at Craig Air Force Base and at Mactan Air Force Base in the Philippines during the Vietnam War, a chapter of his life that instilled in him values of duty and integrity. Beyond his professional endeavors, Stewart found joy in coaching youth sports, participating actively in little league baseball, and serving as president of the youth bowling league. He was straightforward and honest, traits that defined not only his work ethic but also his interactions with friends and family.
