James Cornwell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lighthouse Family Mortuary - Greeley on Feb. 2, 2026.
James "Roy" Cornwell 87 of Johnstown, Colorado, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 30, 2026. He was born on May 7, 1938 in Conyers, Georgia to Ralph Vernon Cornwell and Carrie Velta Cornwell.

Roy proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, an experience that shaped his strong sense of duty and integrity. It was during this time, he gave his life to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

While Roy was serving in the Air Force in Montana, he met the love of his life, Marti Lavell, and they were married in Miles City, Montana, on November 25, 1959. Their marriage was a true partnership, marked by devotion, laughter, and shared adventures. Together they built a family he cherished deeply. He was the proud father of four children - Jim (Lucy) Cornwell, Carrie (Danny) Johnson, Tina (Patrick) Norris, Laurie (Brian) Reynolds, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. His love for his family was steady, generous and unmistakable.

He spent 38 years working for Ball Aerospace as a Quality Assurance Engineer, where his attention to detail, reliability and strong work ethic were well known and respected.

His faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was the foundation of his life. He loved God with all his heart and faithfully served and attended at New Creation Church for 56 years. His kindness, patience and caring spirit reflected his faith in many ways.

Roy and Marti's love for travel carried them across the globe, turning every destination into a lifelong memory. Many of these journeys were made richer by sharing them with special close friends, whose laughter and companionship made each trip all the more memorable.

Above all, Roy will be remembered as a kind, caring man who loved God, and his family, served others, and lived with gratitude and purpose. He lived a long and happy life, and his legacy of love, faith and generosity will continue through all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vernon, Hugh and Bob, and sister Annette.

The Celebration of Life Service will be held at New Creation Church, 737 Bross Street, Longmont Colorado on February 16, 2026 at 11:30am.
