James Edward Coulson, 65, of Brookings, SD, passed away Sunday, November 6, 2022 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD under hospice care. A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm Thursday, November 17, 2022 at Rude's Funeral Home, Brookings, SD. Memorial Services will be held 11:00 am, Friday, November 18, 2022 at the First Lutheran Church, Brookings, SD.
James Edward Coulson was born August 23, 1957, in Brookings, South Dakota, the son of Edward and Bertha (Santema) Coulson. Jim grew up in Brookings and attended Brookings Schools graduating in 1975.
Jim enjoyed the outdoors. Spending time with friends and family hunting, fishing, trap shooting and slow pitch softball. He also enjoyed attending his nieces and nephews sporting events. Jim loved to do word find puzzles and socialize with his many friends at Ray's Corner. His biggest pride and joy were his 3 dogs, Fritz, Jake & Axel.
Jim was employed at Hy-Vee Food Stores in Brookings, SD as the Frozen Foods Manager from 1975 – 2018. He retired from Hy-Vee in 2018 after 42 ½ years of service.
Jim is survived by his 4 sisters. Ann Melmer of Mesa, AZ; Carol (Steve) VanLiere of Brookings, SD; Janice (Ron) Mergen of Brookings, SD; Karen (Greg) Park of Gilbert, AZ. Four nephews, Mitch Melmer, Phil (Haley) Melmer, Cole (Mikena) VanLiere, Lucas VanLiere. Two nieces, Lori Mergen and Abby Mergen.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
