Funeral services for Rev. James D. Covington, aka "Demp","Dempsey", age 88, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, September 27, 2025, in the Chan Stanley Memorial Chapel with burial to follow at Dublin Memorial Gardens. Rev. Doug Bridges and Rev. L.T. Logue will officiate.
Rev. Covington was born on May 3, 1937, in Wrightsville, Georgia. He retired after 34 years with Mohawk Industries. He was of the Pentecostal faith and was a member of Faith Christian Assembly, where he served as Associate Pastor for 24 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, J.W. and Nellie Mae Meeks Covington and his son, William Covington. Rev. Covington passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, Iola Stephens Covington of East Dublin, daughter, Wanda (Clark) Senn of Dudley, two sisters, Carol (Bernard) Boyd of Newington and Schevy Jean (Rodney) Nubern of Brooklet, two brothers, Jimmy (Brenda) Covington of East Dublin and Ricky (Susan) Covington of Pooler, grandchildren, Crystal (Drew) Genteman of Atlanta, Miranda Covington of Lawrenceville, Lauren Windham of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Kyle Windham of Byron, greatgrandchildren, Elise Genteman, James Genteman, and Wesley Doyle.
Pallbearers will be Lee Duggan, Scott Stephens, Drew Genteman, Tim Howell, Tommy Howell and Chris McCullars. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of Faith Christian Assembly Church.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Stanley Funeral Home and Crematory/Dublin Chapel.
