James William Cowan, Jr., born December 2, 1955, to James and Edna Cowan in Butler, Alabama, died with his daughter, Olivia, at his side in their home in Cullman, Alabama on April 25, 2024, after a short battle with cirrhosis of the liver. He is proceeded in death by his wife, Melynda Dozier Cowan and parents, James and Edna Cowan.
He is survived by: son, Jay Cowan (Kaitlyn) of Foley and daughter Olivia Davis (Robert) of Cullman; numerous friends including Kevin McKenzie, Jason Davidson, and Marshall Abston.
He was an active citizen of Butler, Alabama and took much pride in being the Class of '74 from Patrician Academy. In his time in Butler, he served as Mayor for two terms, saw the groundbreaking of Choctaw General Hospital, and was the "Voice of the Saints" for Patrician Academy's Football team throughout his children's high school careers.
Pallbearers will be son-in-law Robert Davis, and long-term friends Jason Davidson, Marshall Abston, Lindy Long, Blake Luker, and Austin Radcliffe. Honorary Pallbearers are Dr. Prelipcean Vlad at Deerfoot Internal Medicine and Patrician Academy's Class of '74.
Service Information: Graveside service only on Sunday 4/28/24 at 3:00 P.M. at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Butler. Service will be officiated by Kevin McKenzie.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Patrician Academy for a new sound system in memory of "The Voice of the Saints," Jimmy Cowan.
