James Riggs Crain, 82, of Westfield, passed away November 13, 2024. He was born January 28, 1942, in Indianapolis, the son of the late Morris and Laurett (Abercrombie) Crain. He married Susan Hicks on September 19, 1981.
Jim proudly and honorably served in the United States Army Reserves. He received his bachelor’s degree from Purdue University and became a lifetime member of the John Purdue Club. His outgoing personality and ambition made him successful in his entrepreneurial endeavors. The longtime family restaurant, Morris Bryant, was a staple for the Purdue and West Lafayette communities for over 40 years. He also owned several restaurants and motels thru out Indiana. Upon retirement, he enjoyed living in Florida and Mexico but always still supporting Purdue Athletics from afar.
He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Susan Crain; three children, James (Deborah) Crain Jr., Timothy (Karen) Shuman, and Amy (David) Cobb; nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Tony, Ethan, Shane, Sommer, Lindsey, Stephen, Logan, and Lucas; and three great grandchildren, Ruth, Niko, and Finley. He was preceded in passing by a brother, Richard Crain; and a sister, Carolyn Hawkins.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 30, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be shared by visiting www.flannerbuchanan.com.
