Mary Rosalie Held had a peaceful passing with her family on March 10, 2026. She was the eldest daughter of Francis and Catherine Marie Schmidt and is survived by her daughter Kimberlie Ebey (Clint), sister Mary Christine Schrader (Tom), brother Mark Schmidt (Debbie), and numerous nephews and cousins.
Rosalie attended grade School at St. Joan of Arc, St Agnes High School, and also studied at Butler University.
She spent 37 years at Indiana Bell and Ameritech, excelling at Management during a time when few women held such positions. She was a proud recipient of the American Business Women’s Association Woman of the Year award in 1972. Her strong sense of Community affairs led to her involvement in the Lugar Series here in Indianapolis.
Rosalie’s lifelong love of music showed with her leadership in the Juried Exhibition for Student Art and board memberships at both the Madame Walker Theater and the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
Faith was integral in her life, and she happily served her parish at Christ the King as a lector and Eucharistic minister.
Rosalie’s greatest joy came from being a devoted mother, wife, sister and friend. Both family and friends remembered that she was the kind of woman who loved to share great conversations full of warmth and laughter, even during times of adversity.
Many fondly recalled her wonderful sense of style and flair for decorating. Friends often joked that she didn’t excel at cooking, so she learned to set an exquisite table instead, even winning an honorary title at Symphony on the Prairie for her lovely arrangements.
Together with her outstanding achievements in the business world and Arts foundations, Rosalie’s spirit will live on in her unwavering faith and beloved family.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Friday, March 20, from 10am to 11am, with a Memorial Mass at 11am, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5884 Crittenden Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220. Roslie’s final resting place will be at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Rosalie’s memory to Christ the King Catholic Church or to the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis.
