It is with deep sorrow and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of James “Jim” Lewis Dabbs, who departed this life on October 21, 2025, surrounded by his devoted family.

Jim was born on February 10, 1941, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the eldest son of the late James and Anna Mary (McMullen) Dabbs. Throughout his life, Jim embodied the values of dedication, service, and love for family and country. He proudly served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman from 1963 to 1965. Jim married the love of his life, Vicki Lynn (Davis) Dabbs, on April 20, 1968, and together they built a beautiful family filled with love, laughter, and devotion.

Jim dedicated 35 years to the telecommunications industry, beginning his career with C&P Telephone Company and advancing to senior-level positions. Notably, he traveled in support of the President of the United States as part of the White House Advanced Communications Team. In 2000, Jim joined the U.S. Department of Labor as a Systems Manager, retiring from federal service in 2006.

After retirement, Jim continued to serve his community through volunteer work with the Calvert Churches Community Food Pantry. He enjoyed life to the fullest—whether golfing, traveling, tending his yard, tinkering around the house, or spending time with family. A loyal sports fan, Jim especially treasured being a season ticket holder for his beloved Washington Redskins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Thomas Dabbs, Sr. and Donald Dabbs; and son-in-law Michael Zanchuck. He is survived by his wife, Vicki; his children, Jamie (Lisa) Dabbs and Kelly Zanchuck, and his cherished grandchildren, Carson (Carly), Caroline, Ethan, and Kinley, who affectionately knew him as “Pap.” He is also survived by his younger sister, Janis (Mark) Ware and other extended family members.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Thursday, October 30, 2025, with visitation from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM and a service from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Lee Funeral Home in Owings, MD. A private interment at Veterans Memorial Cemetery will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake in Jim’s memory.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Rutherford Manor for the care and kindness shown to Jim in his final days.
