James Danko Obituary

James B. Danko, 86, of Latrobe, passed away Saturday, Dec. 27, 2025, at Greene Health and Rehabilitation Center, Greensburg. Born March 15, 1939, in Latrobe, he was the son of the late Matthew Danko and Carmel (Zappone) Danko. Jim was a member of St. Rose Church in Latrobe and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Latrobe Brewing Company. For many years, he worked along with his father at the former Danko's Packing House in the sixth ward. Jim was a dedicated fireman in his community and was a life member of Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department, Hook & Ladder Company No. Two. Some of his favorite pastimes included playing his accordion, traveling, vacationing, especially in Florida, and most of all watching his grandson play baseball. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Matthew T. Danko. Jim is survived by his wife, Joanne (Miller) Danko, of Latrobe; two daughters, Nadine A. Pacella and her husband, Edward A., of Jeannette, and Denise M. Lloyd and her husband, Jeffrey, of Latrobe; one grandson, Jakob Lloyd; his nephew and godson, Matthew Danko (Susan), with whom he was very close; niece, Maria Danko; and several other nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, at LOPATICH-BRINKER FUNERAL HOME LLC, 601 Weldon St., Latrobe. Members of the Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department will conduct a service at 10:45 a.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, in the funeral home. A funeral liturgy will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, in the funeral home with the Rev. Ron Maquinana officiating. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department. I worked with Jim for many years at Latrobe Brewing Co. I always liked when I worked with Jim because he was a good person to talk to and a very good worker. My sympathies to the family.
