James Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Spring Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery - Nashville on Jan. 31, 2026.
James "Jimmy" Earl Davis, born to Lewis and Thelma Davis on January 13, 1941, passed away peacefully, truly surrounded by his loved ones on January 28, 2026.

James could most aptly be defined by his love and concern for his family and friends, for they were always on the forefront of his mind. This made him a very thoughtful man, full of compassion for others. James lived a long 85 years of life, full of love and experiences he truly enjoyed sharing with others. He was so much to so many of us, but most of all, a strong, dependable presence whose porch was always available to come and have a chat about life with him and his dog Charlie. Though we're saddened by his passing, we know he has gone on to a better place where he will find his two sons Mike and Keith, his best-friend Pepper, along with George Jones and Andy Griffith. We'll all find ourselves missing the man who was always so focused on keeping everyone safe with his weather alerts, his confidence in the solutions to all of our problems, and the stubborn, grumpy facade that hid one of the most gentle, caring, animal-loving, "Sherrie"-shouting, charitable men on earth. You will be missed deeply, and will remain a part of us always until we see you again. We love you, James, Jimmy, Dad, Grampy, the "Duke of Earl."

James is preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Thelma Davis, his sons Mike and Keith Davis. He is survived by his wife Sherrie Davis, his brother Ronald "Ronnie" Davis, his children Tena Lewis and Chuck Lewis, and Sherrill Davis, his grandchildren Tyler and Chloe Davis, Taylor and Rachel Davis, Charles and Sydney Lewis, Justin and Mackenzie Davis, Zachary Davis, Jessica and Nicholas Stone, his great-grandchildren Bradford Davis, Jensen Davis, with two more on the way.
