James Peter DeCaprio

James Peter DeCaprio, of Fredericksburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital.

James was born on June 3, 1958, in Brooklyn, NY. He began his lifelong dedication to service as a member of the Seaford Fire Department on Long Island, NY. Following that, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years.

After his time in the Navy, James continued to protect and serve through several years of private security work. He later settled in Virginia, where he became a valued volunteer firefighter with Stafford County Fire and Rescue, Company #2. He served actively from 2000 to 2016 and remained connected and supportive of the department until his passing.

James had a deep love for rock and roll-especially his favorite band, KISS-and was a lifelong and loyal New York Mets fan.

Survivors include his son, Peter Christian DeCaprio; sisters, Maria Sunseri (Don) and Kathleen Rios; nieces, Cristina Vigario (Kevin), Victoria Sunseri (partner Ally Geiger), Theresa Rios (Greg Clarke), and Angela Austin (James); nephews, Steven Sunseri (Virginia) and Anthony Rios (Cristina); and great-niece and -nephews, Mariana and Matteo Vigario, and Luca Sunseri.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Christian; and foster parents, Michael and Eleanor Pendola.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, at St. Jude’s Roman Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Stafford County Volunteer Fire Department.
